Every home win prediction above is a team we expect to win its own ground inside 90 minutes, published with the price and a confidence score before kick-off. This page explains how we separate genuine home bankers from favourites that only look safe, how a straight win compares with win either half and double chance, and what the odds really demand from you.
What our home win picks cover
A home win is the “1” in the three-way market: the host must be ahead after 90 minutes plus stoppage time. A draw or an away win loses the bet. A straight win is the same idea applied to either side, so you will occasionally see away teams on our full 1X2 tips page while this list stays with the hosts. For how the symbols work across bookmakers, see the 1X2 market explained.
How much home advantage is really worth
Home teams win more often than away teams in almost every league, helped by familiar pitches, no travel and crowd pressure on referees. The edge is smaller than many punters assume, though. When top European leagues played behind closed doors in 2020 and 2021, home advantage shrank noticeably, which shows how much of it comes from fans.
So we never back a side just because it is at home. We treat the venue as one input worth a few percentage points, and it matters more in some situations: long away trips, artificial or poor pitches, and midweek fixtures where the visitors are tired.
What we check before backing a host
- Home-only record. Points per game and goal difference at home over the last 8 to 10 home matches, not overall form.
- Home xG difference. A host creating 1.8 expected goals and allowing 0.9 at home is far more reliable than one scraping 1-0 wins.
- The visitor’s away numbers. Some teams defend well on the road and turn short home prices into poor bets.
- Rest and rotation. Hosts coming off a midweek European or cup tie often rotate, which is when upsets happen.
- Price versus our estimate. If we rate the host at 65% and the odds are 1.45 (69% implied), we pass.
Home win odds bands and the break-even rate
| Home odds | Break-even win rate | Typical match |
|---|---|---|
| 1.25 | 80.0% | Title side v bottom half |
| 1.50 | 66.7% | Clear favourite |
| 1.85 | 54.1% | Better side, open game |
| 2.30 | 43.5% | Slight edge to the host |
Example You stake ₦1,000 on four home favourites at 1.25 in separate singles and all win: ₦250 profit each, ₦1,000 in total. A fifth at the same price loses, and the ₦1,000 stake wipes out the whole run. Short prices are only worth taking when the true chance is clearly above 80%.
Straight win, win either half or double chance
When a host looks strong but the full-time margin is uncertain, other markets can fit better:
- Win either half. Each half is scored as its own mini-match, and the bet wins if the home side outscores the visitors in at least one of them. If it is 1-0 at half time and the second half finishes 0-1 (1-1 overall), a win either half bet still lands while the straight win loses. Prices are shorter than the full-time win.
- Home or draw. Covering the draw with a 1X double chance cuts the odds sharply, often to 1.15 to 1.35 for a strong host.
- Stake back on a draw. Home DNB tips sit between the two in price.
Why no home win is ever sure
Some channels sell “sure” home wins every day, but no home team is certain to win: favourites priced at 1.20 still fail to win roughly one match in six, and nobody can know which one in advance. Our highest-confidence hosts are marked 5 above, and the results table shows how they actually landed. For our safest selections across all markets, see the high-confidence picks page, where we explain the same limits.
How home win tips change through the season
The same host can be a good bet in March and a poor one in August. In the first five or six rounds, home tables rest on two or three matches, so we lean more on last season’s underlying numbers and on summer transfers. Promoted sides are hardest to rate early, because their previous home record came against weaker opposition.
From mid-season the home-only data becomes reliable and we trust it more. Congested periods, such as December in England or weeks with European ties, are when we cut the confidence score most often, because rotation hits the favourite harder than the visitor. In the final rounds, a host with nothing to play for against a visitor fighting relegation is a classic trap; we often skip the home win there or move to a handicap line where the price reflects the risk.
Cup ties need separate care. A top-flight side away at a lower-league ground is technically the visitor, so it never appears here, while a lower-league host rarely earns a home tip however loud its crowd.
Common mistakes with home win tips
- Treating any home side as a banker, including mid-table hosts priced at 2.00 or more.
- Using last season’s home record after a change of coach or a summer sale of key players.
- Ignoring the visitors’ setup: a deep, well-organised away defence turns many expected home wins into draws.
- Piling eight hosts into one slip because each “should win”.
How to use the home win picks and results above
Filter the tabs by “Home win” to see only these selections. Each row shows the league, kick-off in WAT, odds and a confidence rating from 1 to 5 with a one-line reason, such as an xG edge or a tired visitor. Two or three high-confidence home picks can anchor a short slip; check the combined price with the accumulator calculator before you book it. The results table lists each home pick as won, lost or void with the score, so you can see whether the short prices are earning their keep.

Frequently asked questions
A home win means the team playing at its own ground wins after 90 minutes. A straight win is a full-time win for whichever team you choose, home or away. Both lose if the match ends level, unlike double chance or draw no bet, which give protection on a draw.
Each half is treated separately. If the home side wins one half, say 1-0 before the break, the bet wins even if the visitors take the second half and the match ends 1-1. It loses only if the team fails to outscore the opponent in both halves.
It varies by season, so check current home and away tables rather than relying on reputation. Leagues with long travel distances, varied pitches or intense home crowds tend to show a bigger home edge. Our daily predictions list the competition next to every pick so you can compare.
No. Each favourite carries its own chance of failing, and those chances multiply. Six home teams each with an 80% chance of winning give only about a 26% chance that all six win. Keep home win slips to two or three strong legs, or bet them as singles.
