On this page
A big odds prediction slip aims for total odds of 20.00 or more, so a ₦200 stake could return ₦4,000 or above. The slip above is built from our own published picks, rated at least 3 out of 5, with its 30-day results shown for you to judge. It is the highest-risk ticket on the site, and this page shows exactly how much risk that is.
How the big odds slip is built
We do not reach big odds with correct scores or HT/FT results. The slip uses the same markets as the rest of our predictions: match result, double chance, goals lines, GG/NG and similar. Correct score, HT/FT, corners, cards, goalscorers and shots are excluded. That means 20.00 comes from adding more legs, typically six or more, rather than from a few long shots.
Each leg is a separate match and must carry a rating of 3 or more. If there are not enough qualifying picks to reach 20.00 without lowering the bar, the page tells you the slip is not ready. On quiet midweek days that happens, and it is better than a ticket stuffed with weak legs.
Example Six legs at 1.65, 1.70, 1.60, 1.75, 1.80 and 1.55 multiply to 21.91. A ₦200 stake returns ₦4,382.53. Add two more legs at 1.70 and 1.65 and the total becomes 61.47, so the same ₦200 would return ₦12,293. Both tickets lose if a single leg fails.
The true chance of 20 odds and 50 odds landing
Multiply the chance of each leg. Six legs that each win 60% of the time give 0.6 multiplied by itself six times, which is 4.7%. Eight such legs give 1.7%. The table shows how quickly long slips become long shots.
| Legs | At 60% each | At 65% each | Typical total odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 4.7% | 7.5% | about 20 |
| 7 | 2.8% | 4.9% | about 35 |
| 8 | 1.7% | 3.2% | about 60 |
Compare those with what the odds imply: 20.00 means 5%, 50.00 means 2%. A slip can only be worth playing when the legs are good enough that the real chance sits above that line. That is why every leg must come from a confident pick rather than a random favourite.
Staking small on high odds
The right stake for a 20+ odds slip is one you will not notice losing many times in a row. At a 5% chance, the probability of losing 30 slips straight is about 21%. That is roughly one punter in five going a whole month without a single win, even when everything is done properly.
- Fix the amount. Something like a quarter of your normal stake, and the same every day.
- Count in months. At 25.00, one win in 25 slips gets your money back.
- Bank wins. When a big slip lands, do not roll the full return into the next one.
Big odds slips are where most punters overspend. If you notice yourself raising the stake after a near miss, or adding legs to “make it worth it”, take a break. Our responsible gambling page lists free tools and help.
Backing must-win teams at big odds
A side desperate for points and priced as an outsider looks like the ideal big-odds bet. Motivation is real, but bookmakers know the table too. A relegation-threatened team’s need to win is already in its price.
A team at 4.00 is one the market gives about a 25% chance. A “must win” situation might lift that a few points; it does not make the team likely to win. The biggest price on the coupon usually belongs to the side least likely to win. If you want to back underdogs, do it with single bets and small stakes, and read our handicap explainer for ways to get a better price without needing an outright win.
20 odds vs 50 odds: which target?
A 20 odds slip of about six legs lands roughly two or three times as often as a 50 odds ticket of about eight legs, if the legs are similar. The 50 odds slip pays more than twice as much when it wins but goes much longer without a win. For most punters, 20 to 30 is the more sensible range; anything above 50 is closer to a lottery ticket.
If waiting weeks between wins is not for you, our 10 odds slip uses four or five legs instead. For daily multiples across all markets, see our acca tips page, and use the accumulator calculator to check any payout before you stake.
Checking a big odds slip before you stake
- Compare prices. If each of six legs is 0.05 lower at your bookmaker, 21.91 drops to about 18.26, a cut of about a sixth in the payout.
- Check the payout cap. Every bookmaker limits how much one ticket can pay; on very high totals the cap can matter.
- Note the kick-off times. Legs spread from early afternoon to late evening WAT mean the slip stays open for hours, so do not stake money you need before it settles.
- Read the void rule. A postponed game is usually counted at 1.00, which shrinks the total but keeps the slip alive.
Reading the big odds history
The 30-day table under the slip will show mostly losses. That is expected. What matters is whether the occasional win pays for the losing days. At a flat ₦200 stake and 20.00 odds, one win in 20 slips gets you level; two wins in 30 puts you ₦2,000 up, and none in 30 leaves you ₦6,000 down.

Frequently asked questions
Most punters mean total odds of 20.00 or more, usually from an accumulator of six or more selections. A single team priced at 5.00 or higher is also called big odds. Either way, the price means the bookmaker expects the bet to lose most of the time.
With legs around 1.65 to 1.75, about eight. Each leg multiplies the total, so seven legs at those prices land between about 33 and 50, and eight push past 50. Fewer legs at higher prices also work, but those picks tend to be less reliable.
A small, fixed amount you can lose 20 or 30 times in a row without stress, for example a quarter of your normal stake. At a 5% chance per slip, going a full month without a win is quite possible, so the stake should be one you would not miss.
Not on our page. The slip uses the same markets as our regular predictions, such as match result, goals lines and GG/NG, and leaves out correct score, HT/FT, corners, cards, scorers and shots. Big totals come from more legs, not from lottery-style markets.
Several small slips spread the risk but each still needs every leg to win. One alternative is a system bet, which splits the stake into smaller combinations so one losing leg does not wipe out everything. The trade-off is a lower top return when all legs win.
