Editorial Policy
How BetNaija247 researches, writes, fact-checks and updates its content, how tips are published and settled, and how we handle independence, corrections and responsible gambling.
On this page
This policy explains how our pages are researched, written, checked and kept up to date, and the rules every tip, review and guide must follow. It applies to every page on BetNaija247, from daily picks to bookmaker reviews.
How we research and write
Editors start from primary sources wherever possible: a competition’s official rules, a bookmaker’s terms and conditions, a regulator’s published notices. Secondary sources such as news reports are used to cross-check, not as the only basis for a fact. If we cannot verify something, we leave it out rather than guess.
We write for adult Nigerian punters in plain English, explain jargon the first time it appears and use worked examples in Naira with decimal odds. Guides avoid details that go stale quickly, such as current form or this week’s bonus amount, unless the page is clearly dated.
Fact-checking and keeping pages up to date
All content is written and checked by our editors before it goes live. The checker confirms numbers, rules, dates and any arithmetic in examples, and checks that every link points to the right page.
Facts that change, such as licences, minimum deposits, payment methods and bonus conditions, are re-checked regularly and whenever a bookmaker or reader tells us something has changed. Bookmaker reviews show the date their sources were last checked, and the scoring method is set out in full on how we rate betting sites.
How tips are published and settled
- Published before kick-off. A pick goes up before the match starts, never after, with the kick-off time in WAT.
- Odds and a reason attached. Each pick shows the market, the odds available when we published it and a short reason based on form, home and away record, goals data, head-to-head and team news.
- Settled by the result. After full time the pick is marked won or lost. A pick on a postponed or abandoned match is marked void.
- Every result kept. Wins and losses stay in the 30-day results table on the page. We do not delete, edit or quietly replace losing picks.
Odds move after publication, so the price you see at your bookmaker may differ from the one we recorded. You can see the result of this process on our daily predictions page.
Independence from bookmakers
BetNaija247 earns affiliate commission from some bookmakers, as described in our affiliate disclosure. Bookmakers do not see, approve or edit our content before it is published. They cannot pay to change a score, a ranking or a pick, and reviews include the weaknesses we find as well as the strengths.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it. Report an error through our contact page with the page address and what you believe is wrong. An editor checks the claim against the source and, if it is confirmed, corrects the page and updates its checked date. Settled tips are not changed after the event, except to fix a clear recording error such as a wrong score.
Responsible gambling standards
- We never describe a bet as sure, fixed or guaranteed, and we explain why such claims are false wherever they come up.
- We never present betting as a way to earn a living, clear debts or solve money problems.
- We never encourage chasing losses or raising stakes to recover them.
- Our content is for adults aged 18 and over and is not aimed at anyone younger.
- We do not publish advice on getting around identity checks, deposit limits or self-exclusion.
Every page links to our guide to stopping or cutting down for readers who feel betting is costing them more than they planned.
Use of software and automation
Like most publishers, we use software to help with tasks such as gathering fixtures, formatting tables and calculating odds and returns. Software does not decide what we publish. Content is written and checked by editors, who are responsible for its accuracy.
Frequently asked questions
No. Once a pick is published it stays in the results table whether it wins, loses or is made void. Removing losers would make the record misleading, so the only change ever made to a settled pick is fixing a clear recording error, such as a mistyped score.
It is marked void in the results table rather than won or lost. Your own ticket is settled under your bookmaker's rules for postponed or abandoned matches, which differ between operators, so check that bookmaker's terms.
Software helps with routine jobs such as gathering fixtures and doing calculations, but it does not decide what is published. Every page is written and checked by our editors, who are responsible for its accuracy and for fixing any mistake readers report.
