MerryBet Review Nigeria: Licence Check & Payouts

This MerryBet review checks what still holds for one of Nigeria's oldest bookmakers in 2026: an expired NLRC permit, unclear bonus terms, a lite site for basic phones and bank payouts.

  10. Should you bet with MerryBet in 2026?

MerryBet has taken bets from Nigerians since 2013, but its public paperwork has not kept pace with newer rivals. This MerryBet review sets out what can be confirmed in late 2026, what cannot, and how those gaps should shape your decision before you send any money.

Who runs MerryBet and the state of its licence

The operating company is Merrybet Gold Limited. Reviews describe the brand starting out as an online casino in 2013 before building the sportsbook that made it one of the familiar Nigerian names of the late 2010s, alongside the early Bet9ja and NairaBet era.

The licence is the weak point. The National Lottery Regulatory Commission’s approved-operators list shows Merrybet Gold Limited with a five-year permit from 13 July 2019 to 12 July 2024, and no renewed entry appears. The company is also missing from the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority register as updated in October 2026. Several review sites say MerryBet is licensed by the Lagos State Lotteries Board and the Oyo State Gaming Board, yet none quotes a licence number, and neither claim could be matched to a regulator record.

Two things follow from that. Since the Supreme Court judgment of 22 November 2024 an NLRC permit only covers the FCT, so even a renewed federal permit would not license betting in Lagos or Oyo. And without a confirmed state licence you have fewer places to escalate a disputed payout. Ask customer care for the current licence number and check it on the regulator’s website before depositing. Our page on Nigerian betting law explains what each regulator covers.

We list MerryBet as “Nigerian licence stated, number not confirmed”. If the operator publishes a current state licence, we will update this review and its score.

MerryBet bonuses: what can and cannot be confirmed

No current welcome offer could be verified. Third-party pages from 2023 to 2026 contradict each other, quoting everything from no bonus at all to 100% or 150% matches with caps between ₦20,000 and ₦100,000, and none of them links to published terms. Treat any figure you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until you can read the rules on merrybet.com.

The promotion that appears most consistently in reviews from 2022 to 2026 is accumulator cashback. If a ticket with five or more selections loses by a single leg, MerryBet returns 5% of the stake. Reviewers report a ₦200 minimum stake and 1.50 minimum odds on every selection.

Cashback example: you stake ₦2,000 on a six-fold where every leg is priced 1.50 or higher. Five legs win and one loses. Under the cashback rule you would get ₦100 back, which is 5% of the stake. It softens a near miss but does nothing to change the long odds of six-leg tickets.

Reviewers also mention a referral scheme and short-lived promo codes, sometimes valid for only 24 hours. For welcome offers whose terms are actually published, use our bonus comparison.

Signing up and verifying with MerryBet

  1. Go to merrybet.com and tap Register at the top right of the home page.
  2. Fill in the registration form with your personal details and submit it with the Register button at the bottom.
  3. Note your username and password: older guides stress keeping both, since you sign in with them.
  4. Fund the account from the deposit menu using a card, Paystack or Quickteller.
  5. Expect an identity check before your first withdrawal. A 2026 review says a valid ID is requested and sometimes proof of address.

Only adults aged 18 or over may register. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your bank account, because payouts are sent to a Nigerian account in the account holder’s name.

Sportsbook, markets and odds

MerryBet is a football-first bookmaker. Reviews describe the standard menu of 1X2, double chance, over/under, both teams to score and handicap markets on the main European leagues, with basketball and tennis as the busiest secondary sports. Older reviews also list the NPFL, which helps if you follow the local league, but the current depth of Nigerian markets could not be confirmed, so the sports line on this page stays blank.

Reviewers rate MerryBet’s prices as average rather than sharp. Before placing a large stake on a big match, compare the price with two or three licensed bookmakers. Our guide on how to read odds shows how a small difference in decimal odds changes your return.

Live betting and cash out

In-play betting is available, and a 2026 review describes three ways to use it: Single Live for one match, a Live Calendar of upcoming in-play events and Multi-Live for following several games at once. Cash out is offered and, according to reviewers, works on singles and accumulators.

Streaming is the gap. Reports range from a small number of streams on top football matches to none at all, so plan to watch the game elsewhere. Our live betting guide explains how to judge in-play prices without video.

Virtual games and casino

Virtual football, horse racing and dog racing run 24 hours a day, with a new event every few minutes. MerryBet has run casino games in the past, but the current casino lobby and whether Aviator is offered could not be confirmed, so those features show as not published. If crash games are your main interest, our list of Aviator betting sites covers licensed options.

Mobile access: smartphone site and lite version

There is no confirmed MerryBet app in Google Play or the App Store, and a 2026 review says no dedicated app is offered. Instead there are two browser versions: a smartphone site and a lite site built for basic phones and slow networks. The lite version loads quickly on weak 3G and uses very little data, which is its real advantage over heavier apps.

On Android you can add the site to your home screen from Chrome’s menu to get an app-like shortcut. Avoid “MerryBet APK” files offered by third-party download sites, since none could be traced back to the operator.

Deposits and withdrawals in Naira

Card payments (Visa, Mastercard and Verve), Paystack and Interswitch Quickteller are the deposit methods most sources agree on. Some 2026 reviews also mention OPay, PalmPay and USSD, but these could not be confirmed. Published minimum deposits vary from ₦1 to ₦500 between sources, which is too wide to quote with confidence.

The clearest withdrawal figure is a ₦1,000 minimum for bank payouts. A review updated in January 2026 describes standard bank withdrawals as taking 24 to 48 hours without a fee, plus an instant withdrawal option that costs ₦50. Payouts go to a Nigerian bank account in your own name, and the first request may wait for an ID check.

Because the current terms are hard to find, run a small test first: deposit, place one bet and request a ₦1,000 withdrawal before you commit larger sums.

Contacting MerryBet customer care

Channels reported by reviewers include live chat, email (support@merrybet.com), a contact centre line (01 700 2030) and WhatsApp (0816 438 7525). These contacts have been quoted since 2020, so confirm them on the website. Reviews describe phone and live chat as the fastest routes but say replies can be slow at busy times. Support hours are not published in any source we found.

Should you bet with MerryBet in 2026?

MerryBet may still work for long-time customers who like the lite site and the acca cashback. For a new account, the lack of a confirmed current licence and the missing bonus terms are serious drawbacks, and both matter more than any odds boost. If you want an established Nigerian brand with a clear Lagos licence, read our Bet9ja review or our BetKing review. Whatever you choose, set a budget first; our responsible gambling page lists free support services.

7.7/10

Our verdict on MerryBet

MerryBet can still suit long-standing customers who value its lite mobile site, simple layout and accumulator cashback. For new sign-ups it is hard to recommend: its NLRC permit ran out in July 2024, it is not on the Lagos register, and its welcome offer and payment limits are not published in a form we could confirm. If you do use it, test a small ₦1,000 withdrawal first and confirm the licence number with customer care.

MerryBet FAQ

The NLRC list shows a permit for Merrybet Gold Limited from 13 July 2019 to 12 July 2024, with no renewal listed. MerryBet is not on the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority register as of October 2026. Reviewers mention Lagos and Oyo licences but give no numbers, so ask customer care for the current licence before depositing.
