- Who should still use NairaBet
NairaBet opened in 2009, years before most of today’s big Nigerian brands, and many punters still have an account there. This NairaBet review asks whether it is still a safe, well-run choice in 2026. The product still works for small stakes, but its licence trail is the weakest of any long-standing Nigerian bookmaker we have checked.
NairaBet’s owner, history and the missing register entry
NairaBet was founded in 2009 by Akin Alabi, who later entered politics and now sits in the House of Representatives. Reviewers describe it as the first online sportsbook to launch in Nigeria, four years before Bet9ja. We could not confirm the name of the operating company from any 2025 or 2026 source.
The licence position is the main concern. Reviews say NairaBet is licensed, but they disagree on the regulator: one names the NLRC, another the Lagos authority. When we checked the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority register (updated 27 October 2026) and the NLRC operator list, no entry contained the NairaBet name. It is possible the licence is held under a company name we could not link to the brand, but until NairaBet shows a current state licence on its own site, treat it as unconfirmed.
Two other details point the same way: several major Nigerian review sites that used to cover NairaBet now redirect those pages to other bookmakers, and the official site could not be loaded for this review. Even if the site is still trading, an NLRC licence alone would only cover the FCT since the Supreme Court judgment of 22 November 2024. Read our legal guide for what a state licence protects.
Before depositing a large amount, look for the licence statement in the NairaBet footer and match the company name against the Lagos register. If you cannot match them, keep your balance small.
Welcome bonus claims and the accumulator Win Bonus
Two 2026 sources describe a 100% first-deposit match but give different terms. One, updated in July, says the cap is ₦10,000 with no rollover and minimum odds of around 1.50. Another says the cap is ₦50,000, the qualifying deposit is ₦200 and the bonus must be rolled over 5x on accumulators of three or more legs at 1.40 or higher within 30 days, with the promo code NEWBONUS at sign-up.
Why the version matters: deposit ₦10,000 and the bonus is ₦10,000 under either version. With no rollover you could stake it once and keep the winnings. Under the 5x version you would need ₦50,000 of qualifying accumulator stakes, each with three or more legs priced at 1.40 or above, before the bonus balance converts. That is a very different commitment, so read the terms in the app on the day you join.
The better-known long-running promotion is the Win Bonus, which adds a percentage to winning accumulators that meet the selection and odds conditions. One review cites a top rate of 500% for the biggest qualifying multiples. The table of leg counts and percentages was not published in our sources, so check it before building a slip, and test the maths with our accumulator calculator. More offers are compared on our bonuses page.
Opening a NairaBet account
- Go to the NairaBet website or the Android app and tap Register.
- Enter your Nigerian phone number, email address and a password. If you want the welcome bonus, enter any promo code shown on the promotions page at this stage.
- Complete the verification prompt that appears after sign-up.
- Make a first deposit (from ₦100) to activate the account and any first-deposit offer.
- Before your first withdrawal, upload an identity document and proof of address; reviewers say first payouts take longer while these are checked.
Markets, NPFL coverage and home-grown games
Football leads the sportsbook, with the main European leagues, African competitions and the NPFL reported in 2026. Reviewers count more than 30 sports in total, including basketball and tennis. NPFL punters can pair it with our NPFL predictions.
NairaBet also keeps two games you will not find elsewhere: Naira 6, a pools-style prediction game, and Quiz and Cash. Virtual sports run alongside the main book.
In-play betting and cash out
Our earlier listing said NairaBet had no live betting, which was wrong. A 2026 review describes in-play markets on most top football and basketball fixtures, with acceptable delay when odds update, and cash out on eligible slips. We found no evidence of live streaming, so plan to follow matches elsewhere.
Casino, Aviator and virtuals
Virtual sports are confirmed. We could not find a 2025 or 2026 source that clearly describes a casino lobby or Aviator, so we have not assumed either is available. If crash games are your main interest, our Aviator guide lists sites where it is confirmed.
The NairaBet app
The Android app is downloaded from the official website as an APK rather than from Google Play. Allow installs from your browser only while you install it, then switch the setting off. One review claims an iOS app, but a July 2026 guide tells iPhone users to use the mobile site, which is lighter on data and needs no download.
Funding and cashing out in Naira
Deposits can be made by bank transfer, Nigerian debit card, USSD, Paystack and Flutterwave; one review also lists OPay and PalmPay. Deposits are reported as instant. The minimum deposit is ₦100.
We could not confirm a minimum withdrawal or a published payout time. Reviewers say withdrawals are paid to your verified bank account and usually processed within hours once KYC is complete, with the first one slower. Make sure the bank account name matches your NairaBet profile exactly.
Getting help from NairaBet
Live chat is described as the fastest channel, with email as a slower backup that reviewers say answers within several hours. We could not confirm a working phone line or published hours, so save chat transcripts if you raise a payment issue.
Who should still use NairaBet
It makes sense for existing customers who like the Win Bonus or Naira 6 and keep balances modest. New punters and anyone staking larger amounts will be better served by a bookmaker with a visible Lagos register entry, such as Bet9ja or Merrybet. Set a deposit limit and never chase losses; see our responsible gambling page for tools.
Our verdict on NairaBet
NairaBet suits punters who already have an account and like its accumulator Win Bonus and home-grown games such as Naira 6. Its history since 2009 is real, and the ₦100 minimum deposit keeps it accessible. The serious catch is that we could not find the brand on the Lagos or NLRC registers in October 2026, and several large review sites no longer cover it. Until a current state licence is shown, keep balances small and prefer licensed alternatives for larger stakes.

NairaBet FAQ
NairaBet has traded since 2009, but in October 2026 we could not find it on the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority register or the NLRC operator list, and reviews disagree about which regulator licenses it. Check the licence statement on its site before depositing large amounts.
NairaBet was founded in 2009 by Akin Alabi, who is now a member of the House of Representatives. We could not confirm the name of the company that currently operates the site from a 2025 or 2026 source.
The minimum deposit is ₦100 according to 2026 reviews. One review says the welcome bonus needs at least ₦200, so check the bonus terms if you want the offer. Deposits by bank transfer, card, USSD, Paystack and Flutterwave are reported as instant.
Sources describe a 100% first-deposit match, but one says it is capped at ₦10,000 with no rollover, while another says ₦50,000 with a 5x rollover on accumulators of three or more legs at 1.40 or higher. Confirm the current terms in the app before depositing.
Yes. 2026 reviews describe in-play markets on most major football and basketball fixtures, and cash out on eligible slips. We found no evidence that NairaBet streams matches, so you will need to follow the game on another service.
The Android app is an APK downloaded from the official NairaBet website, not Google Play. Allow installs from your browser for the download, then turn that permission off. iPhone users are advised to use the mobile site in Safari.
